Registered for a First Marathon...

It's official;  I'm now registered for my first marathon race.  The race is The Gusher Marathon, Beaumont, Texas, on May 1, 2010.
A smaller-city race like this should be a good first marathon for me.  It shouldn't be too crowded, and the course is pretty flat.  It's just a little late in the season; by May 1, it may be getting pretty warm.  However, May allows plenty of time to get ready.  I just need to stretch my long runs into the 20s and continue to build my base mileage.

Hi.

I couldn't find your e-mail, so I write here.

My name is Aurimas :)
I have read your blog today :) I love running as you do.
I made a website about running for beginners :) www.you-run.com
I want to ask you one thing.
I want to make a place in my website where will be runners interviews. Not elite runners, simple people with running passion. Why? Because it's much more inspirational. I admire simple people who love running. They can encourage others to run.
It would be a place where people can see and say "I can run too:)". That would be just great.
What do you think about this?
I will ask simple questions about running: why running, when did you start, what are your goals and so on?
I am looking forward to your answer :)
My email is atsipootes@gmail.com
Have a nice day :)

P.S. It's very great that you registered for a marathon :)

Best wishes,
Aurimas
Feel the joy of running:)

Aurimas,

That sounds like an interesting website feature; sort of like a site guestbook with a visitor profile based on the question responses.

I looked at your website. Good work! Let me know when you add the questions. I'll be glad to participate.

Thanks for visiting Running Green!

Did I mention having a half-brother in Sour Lake? I haven't seen him in many years and doubt that I ever will, but there he still is in his big house in the woods.

Small world... Sour Lake is about 17 miles from my home.

hmmm, I commented 3 times on this post and each time it doesn't take. Here is for the 4th time.
A first marathon is a great experience, one you will never repeat, obviously ;) make it good. Choose the right marathon. Heat and humidity are not friends of good runs, at least not for me. Today I ran Harrisburg and it was 20 degrees warmer than the average temp, not my ideal.
Whatever you decide, good luck. It will be an unforgettable experience.

Hi Myriam,

Well, your comments finally got through! I wonder what is causing the problem on this post. It looks like your comments on other posts came through OK using your Google ID...

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement. I'm really looking forward to this first one. I hope it's not too warm on race morning. On May 1 down here, it may still be pretty mild, or it may be starting to get warm.

I also run a lot better when it's cooler. If it's warmer, I can handle it, but it will slow me down. I trained pretty hard through the summer this year so I should be acclimated to deal with it if I have to.

How did you do in Harrisburg?

Harrisburg was 20 degrees warmer than it had been 2 yrs ago when I ran it. I struggled. I did the time I wanted but I cramped really bad

I looked at the Harrisburg results online; looks like you ran less than 10 minute pace... And if it had been cooler, you'd have probably done half a minute quicker pace. Good race! However, cramping is not an enjoyable way to achieve it...
